The Heart Behind Nurture by Nuru

About Shannon

Hi, I am Shannon McGee, founder of Nurture by Nuru and a dedicated postpartum support professional serving families throughout Central Maryland.

My work is rooted in a deep belief that the postpartum season deserves just as much care, attention, and gentle support as pregnancy and birth. Families often enter these early weeks feeling both joyful and overwhelmed, and I am honored to provide the calm, steady presence that helps parents rest, recover, and grow in confidence.

I bring a unique blend of professional and hands-on newborn experience to my work. My background includes supporting families and newborns in clinical and home settings, including time in NICU environments where attentiveness, gentleness, and emotional awareness are essential. This experience allows me to support families with a thoughtful, observant approach while always remaining within the non-medical scope of postpartum doula care.

In addition to my newborn and postpartum work, my extensive childcare experience has given me a strong foundation in infant care, family rhythms, and the practical realities of life with a new baby. I understand that no two households are the same, which is why every care plan through Nurture by Nuru is personalized to meet each family’s unique needs, preferences, and comfort level.

Families often describe my presence as calm, grounding, and reassuring. My goal in every home is to create an environment where parents can exhale, ask questions freely, and feel genuinely supported during one of life’s most tender transitions.

Through Nurture by Nuru, I provide non medical postpartum doula support including overnight care, daytime support, NICU transition support, and gentle newborn education. Whether you are a first time parent, welcoming another baby, or transitioning home after a NICU stay, my role is to help you feel more rested, more confident, and more supported every step of the way.

It is truly an honor to walk alongside families during this sacred season of new beginnings.

The Meaning Behind Nurture by Nuru

Nuru is a Swahili word meaning light. The name Nurture by Nuru reflects my belief that families deserve both gentle care and steady guidance during the postpartum season.

My goal is to bring a calming, supportive presence into your home so that you can rest, recover, and move forward with greater confidence during the early weeks with your baby.
